Aeras Asia - Leveraging Social Media to Promote WTBD Messages

Aeras Asia put forward a strong online presence following successes last year on Weibo, securing exclusive hashtags that again proved to be very popular. On March 24, the Aeras China Weibo site received 24,920 views, and the hashtags #2017WorldTBDay and #WorldTBDay received nearly 2.3 million and 31,251 views respectively.  These hashtags were picked up and shared by organizations such as the National Center for Tuberculosis Control and Prevention, China CDC, and the Beijing Municipal Health Bureau, as well as several media outlets and hospitals.

Offline, our team members were busy at several events in the region, inlcuding the TB Forum at Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital and The Union Asia Pacific Regional Conference 2017 in Tokyo, Japan. Highlights from that event included an appearance by Princess Akishino at the opening ceremony and a track on TB vaccines, with presentations from Prof. Yasutomi, NIBIOHN, Prof. Ray Cho, Yonsei University, and Prof. Warwick Britton, University of Sydney. To help amplify our message about TB R&D, we shared a key messages document in both English and Chinese with over 60 regional stakeholders from China, Japan, Singapore, Korea, Philippines, India and Australia, as well as with journalists and news outlets, pharma and biotech companies, universities, and government and non-profit organizations.
